Human Rights Convention - People with Disability

The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission has welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement that it will sign the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York on 30 March.

The Convention adds to existing human rights laws by confirming once and for all that people with disability are entitled to the full range of human rights. It also provides clearer goals for governments throughout the world to work towards ensuring human rights in practice for people with disability.

Australia Day Honours

Congratulations to John Bennett, Engineering Director of Benbro Electronics and one of the founding members of the Australian Employers Network on Disability (Employers Making a Difference).

On Australia Day (26 Jan 07) John was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for "service to the community through the Employers Making a Difference organisation encouraging employment of people with disabilities".

John has been a great leader when it comes to furthering the agenda of the employment of people with disability, and this award is very well deserved!
